For me to get a sense of what people think of my idea I conducted a focus group to gain feedback. I began with a brief overview of my synopsis and went into detail about how I want the movie to be made.
This was the feedback I got from the two members in my focus group. Will Townsend - Creative Media Production Student: " i like the educational use because it could be used in school and it has a point to it. one thing that could be improved is write a bit more about the plot and think about the characters that could be in it at an early stage" Charlie Dunrod - Creative Media Production Student: " its very well thought through, I think its very feasible. one thing that could be improved is that you could strengthen the idea so that you have backup plans for parts of the pitch if it doesn't work well. A product that you could watch for inspiration is 'Back To The Future' because it shows different points of time and how kids react to new technology and old technology. Look at the skateboard scene and watch the kids reactions when Marti takes the skateboard and snaps off the handle to create the first ever skateboard and the kids are amazed " Back To The Future Clip:
Ashley Knapp - Creative Media Production Student:
" its a really good idea, I like it a lot. its unique because I've never seen something like this done before. its not something that has been touched upon alot. Id make sure you keep developing the idea further and get on with a script because that would help you gain a fuller understanding of the whole plot and the idea in general" Jake Kirton - Creative Media Production Student: " I think that it might not be as feasible as you might think. I think because you'd have to include 90's technology and 90's looking settings which could be hard to do on a budget ". This feedback has made me think more about my idea and how achievable it is to make. I think the next steps is to think about starting the script and looking at costume and technology.

Idea 1
For my first initial idea from the beginning since knowing about the final major project, I had pitched this one in my head a few times for this unit. The Pitch Down to a few sentences, is a short film comparing kids growing up in the 90's and kids in our current generation. Focusing mainly on how they handle situations in different environments and how they feel out of their comfort zone, wether they can handle it or not. Themes The main themes of this short will be romance, social media and adventure. even though these genres/ themes don't really sound like they would mix well i think that from my ideas i have brainstormed for this pitch that it would work very well as an inspirational film and hopefully used as an educational video to show kids at school as it would hopefully make them realise how kids have changed from a few years ago a lot and mostly not in a positive forward momentum. How would this idea become a reality? I think this pitch could definitely be a reachable success. not much is needed to make the film, a handful of interesting locations which; as i live in bristol, is very achievable to make happen. a couple of teenagers willing to put in a good acting effort and some equally skilful team members to help me accomplish the scenes and specific shots I have thought of for this idea. Influences I was influenced for this idea purely from when thinking about my previous summer holidays spent with my friends in the past it makes me realise that we had a lot more fun in our generation compared to how kids in the current young generation find ways to have "fun". My definition of fun when I was their age is completely different to their idea of fun which is what made me think back to my old summer memories. Also, seeing 13 - 15 year olds outside in this era is a much more of a rare situation than it would have been just a few years ago. Because I was born in the 90's when i refer to back in the 90's i mean when I was a kid out playing with my mates which was actually in the early 2000's. But because of a social trend that is going on at the moment about how 'only 90's kids will remember' is a thing where 90's was only lived on until the new generation came on. this is also a possible name for the film "only 90's kids will remember". Out of all three analysis tasks that I have done on Shawshank Redemption, I think that the task that was the most relatable to the film was Genre.
I found that the film is very deep and dramatic so in terms of analysing the genre of the film, there is lots to talk about. The two genre's that Shawshank falls under are Crime and Drama. These two genres require a lot of detail and depth to be a successful Crime/Drama so analysing why the film succeeded in these genres was easy to do and there was lots to talk about. Representation was still a good subject to talk analyse in the film as it was a prison environment so there was a lot of recreating how prison lifestyle used to be which is representation in itself. Also, narrative had a lot to talk about because it applies to all films in the same way so it was easy to go into detail with how the film was narrated and presented to the audience. overall, all three tasks were successful in analysing the film in detail but genre was the most successful. |
