In this scene the film you can definitely tell that it is filmed from Iron Mans perspective. This is clear to me when I watch the clip because of how it starts with him sat onto of the building and as Samuel L Jackson enters it cuts to a close up of Iron Man raising his eyebrows and realising his presence in the scene.
Agent Romanov (Scarlett Johansson) is represented as a very typical spy girl, wearing the typical, completely unnecessary skin tight outfit with her top slightly unzipped. this is obviously for the male viewers to appreciate but is also a great way of them to promote the Iron Man series by basically saying "this sexy badass character is going to be in the film now, your welcome". In the diner scene Iron Man is showed again as the point of view as the over the shoulder angle is used frequently looking at the two characters talking to Iron Man. As Agent Romanoff enters this scene its clear as soon that the scene is aimed at the male viewers. This is obvious because its a low angle shot which immediately shows her from behind as she enters the shot which shows her in her tight outfit. As first impressions on the character it makes you think that she is the typical hot spy character.
This specific shot type is referred to as a 'Bridging Shot'.
This shot is usually used by filmmakers to portray a shift in time or place. a common way of this type of shot being used is an animated map from above with a plane or car traveling along a line from one point of the map to another. A famous example of this shot type being use is in the journey from the US to Nepal in 'Raiders Of The Lost Ark' (1981). I struggled to find a clip of this rather famous shot so instead, here's a rather comical example of a Bridging Shot used in 'The Muppets', link below ... On the 16th and the 17th of September, I went to the Encounters Film and Animation Festival in Bristol.
Whilst I was there I attended multiple screenings of the films/ animations that had been entered by various different students, filmmakers and animators from all around the world. All of the films were very unique but a couple of them stood out to me from the rest for their creativeness and abstractness. First, a short Animation titled 'Unhappy Happy' Directed & Produced by Peter Millard [email protected] 7 Mins 7 Secs It is simply described as "I get up and have breakfast. Don't get old. Im so Unhappy Happy." I really liked this animation because it was so different to all of the others in its own very odd way. I found it very funny because of the fact that it was so hard to know what was actually happening in the film. the sound effects in the background really added to the confusion as well as you really had to use your imagination to think where they were coming from. I still don't know what the film was trying to get across to the viewers but i certainly found it very amusing and it really got me thinking how such a simple idea could be transformed into such a creative piece of work. this was by far my favourite Animation that i watched over the two days of attending the festival. Next, a Short film titled 'Patriot' Directed by Eva Riley [email protected] 15 Mins 0 secs "Against the backdrop of simmering racial tensions within her rural English town, the life of eleven year old Hannah changes forever when she meets a boy from a mysterious and forbidden world" This film was about a girl who has been brought up by her patriotic Father, forced to support what he believes in and gets dragged around by her Brother for them to try and make her commit to the patriot lifestyle. Although it is clear that she really doesn't understand where all of the hatred towards immigrants is coming from as she is not yet old enough to understand their beliefs, It is clearly shown in the short that she isn't allowed to know yet why her Brother and Father are part of this group of followers. Scenes of the Brother and the Dad not letting Hannah be part of the talk in the kitchen really emphasises the fact that she has grown up in a patriarchal society. This short film for me definitely had the best cinematography work out of all of the films that I viewed which made it that much better to watch. i found this short film very moving and the storyline was very powerful as it really showed how people can be led to follow others beliefs just because it seems like the right thing to do to 'fit in'. Although I only touched upon the two Films that stood out to me the most, all of the films that I viewed over the two days of being at the festival were very well made and the creativity in the work has really inspired me to try to create some short films of my own. I can honestly say that i really enjoyed the visit to this years Encounters Film Festival and i very much hope to be attending next year again. Thanks for reading. |
