This is an advert that I attempted to recreate the audio track for. This task proved difficult and made me realise how much work goes into creating a good advert that's immersive. The original TV advert - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIOcgfz_KRU

How music and sound is utilised in Films can have a huge impact on the Genre of the film, the style of the film and so on. The music that is chosen to be used in a film can completely change the audiences outlook on the scene. for example in Titanic the music starts off in the first half of the film as calm, relaxed music to show a happy mood, and as the ship starts to sink the music changes to intense, suspenseful music to go along with the suspense generating in the film. Sound is also just as important in films as music is, even though it is often undercooked in lower budget filmmaking. Having good sound in a scene can really help hook the audience, making the film more immersive and also more realistic. sound can be created in lots of different ways but if your watching a big production movie, most likely a lot of the sound/ sound effects have been recorded by a Foley artist which is someone who specialises in capturing sound effects to add over clips to fill in any missing sounds that the audience should be hearing in the film. a good example is a gun shot, 99% of the time guns will not actually be shot with live ammunition during the filming of a scene, so it is the Foley experts role to capture the sound of a real gun firing so it can be added by editors over the top of the fake shot that was filmed. this is an obvious example of the use of sound, but sound is everywhere in films and is one of the main way's filmmakers will try to immerse their viewers into the action. Here is a good example below I found on Youtube of how the music choice can affect a film scene. The shot types you choose to use when filming really sets the mood and intensity of the scene. especially with shots such as close ups and high angle/ low angle shots.
In this scene there are lots of mid shots of the characters moving around to show the fast pace of the actors. also they use deep focus shots to draw focus to the masks on the characters faces to make it intimidating. High angle shots are used in combination with over the shoulder shots when the Joker is looking down on the victim to show dominance. vise versa with the low angle shots of the victim looking up at the Joker to show fear. An establishing shot is used at the end of the clip to show you where they are and also that the intensity has dropped. |
