Primary research is when the research is done by you. This may be through conducting surveys, or gathering information from people in an interview type process.
Secondary research is when the information is taken from surveys or questionnaires that have already been carried out. this information is available to the public and is referred to as 'desk research'. These are often found on the internet or in libraries. I have used primary research in my coursework recently, more specifically in my Ident research. I used an online survey type questionnaire to get various different opinions on how my Ident looked so i could act on their feedback. I've also used a small focus group to talk to a few students and really get the know what they thought of my Ident in a one to one situation. I found both of these methods of primary research useful and successful. I have also used Secondary research in my coursework recently to get information from the internet about a film i was analysing. I found that the internet was a convenient, broad place to look for good, reliable information to use in my work. For each method of research there are Pro's and Con's. Pro's of primary research
Con's of primary research
Pro's of secondary research
Con's of secondary research
I found that after using both methods of research, that I prefer to use primary research as it is up to date and you can get the exact answers your asking for. also if your struggling to find relative surveys online, it can actually be a quicker process.

Research is carried out in every aspect of media. If it's radio, film, tv, advertising or any other sector of the media industry, research will be carried out for many different reasons.here are some examples of why research is used.
Radio
Film
Television
These are just some of the main areas that would be researched into by companies so they can get the most views, get the best ratings and appeal to larger audiences. But overall, research is done to allow you to maximise profit, that is the end goal and the reason people/ businesses will do research. I conducted a focus group with a couple of my college class members to get some feedback on my finished Ident design. I also made a quick survey for people to fill out for some extra feedback. Link to my Ident survey - https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/9SVX3QS From the feedback I gained from the survey i conducted and also my focus group I can confidently say that I'm happy with my Ident. It appeals to the right audience and it also is memorable. I took onboard the feedback about making the Logo more centred and bigger but I decided not to change this in my final design as I wanted it to be offset to the right to make it look like a sketchbook being doodled on by me. almost capturing the moment I thought of the idea.
other feedback such as i should make it more colourful but I like the black and white effect more than the colour version. |
